In 1934 Fred Perry became the first Englishman to win the men's singles title at Wimbledon. At the end of the 1940's, Fred Perry, alongside Austrian footballer Tibby Wegner, went into partnership producing sweatbands. The pair went into business producing white knitted cotton pique polo shirts. The brand is best known for its laurel logo, which has stood the test of time and now become one of the most recognisable logos in international sport and fashion.
